Taking cognizance of the comment made against the Governor during the inauguration of the Kisanmela-2014 at GB Pant Agriculture University, the State Governor Dr Aziz Qureshi has reiterated that as long as he is here he will not allow himself to be pressured into appointing a wrong person as the vice-chancellor of the varsity.
He added he came to know that some dignitaries had made absurd comments against him for stonewalling the appointment of the VC. It is true that he had not zeroed in on any one from the panelists, which was recommended by the search committee. This is because the applicants, aspiring for a venerable post, had adopted wrong means.
As the Chancellor of the varsity, he had suggested Govt to constitute the search committee comprising a judge of the HC, Director General of Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) or a nationally or internationally acclaimed scientist. he also suggested that this model should be followed while appointing VCs for other universities too, the Governor said.
To keep things moving, he had appointed the incumbent chief secretary as the VC and none called his decision into question. later, VCs from another University was given the additional charge of Pant Nagar University. They are going for wild charges without taking the pains to understand the problem from the standpoint of the Chancellor. This is uncalled for, he said, adding such attacks would not make him budge from his resolve on the matter.
He would green light the appointment only when a truly eligible person is found. “I am ready to quit as the Chancellor. But I would not brook any ineligible person becoming the VC by deceit,” he said.
