The Uttarakhand Governor Dr Aziz Qureshi and Chief Minister Vijay Bahuguna have extended their greetings on the occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr to the people of the State and the Muslim Community, in particular.

While the Governor exhorted citizens, especially members of the Muslim community to come forward for the betterment of the needy and victims of the recent disaster in Uttarkahand, the CM announced various measures aimed at facilitating the welfare of the Muslim community in Uttarakhand. He said that the State Government would ensure boundary walls and a room with electricity and water connection in every Muslim cemetery of the State. Ninety-six madrassas are also being registered so that they get entitled to obtain mid-day meals as well as other benefits.

Bahuguna also announced that scholarships will be provided for girls of the minority community who have scored more than 60 per cent. To ensure this, scholarships of Rs 15,000 will be given to school students and Rs 25,000 to those pursuing higher education.

He said, “We all should be part of each other’s happiness.” He asked Allah to shower his blessings for peace in the world and courage for the disaster affected victims. Meanwhile, the Governor Dr Qureshi said, “This festival teaches one to nurture the values of mercy, sacrifice, mutual harmony and peace by keeping away from the negative aspects. Encouraging positive human values on this occasion will further strengthen the sense of egalitarianism and mutual harmony in society,” said the Governor on his message released on the eve of Eid-ul - Fitr.

Addressing all citizens, especially members of the Muslim community, the governor exhorted them to come forward to help the poor and deprived sections of society as well as the people affected in the disaster experienced in Uttarakhand in June. “The real joy of Eid-ul-Fitr is not in simply sharing happiness but in forgettingcaste, religion and other differences to empathise with those in sorrow and help in alleviating their problems. This is the real message of Islam and the almighty Allah will appreciate celebration ofthe festival with this simple harmony,” said the Governor.
