Guest lecturers can continue their duty till March 2018: HC

PNS

Giving relief to the lecturers working as guest teachers, the Uttarakhand High Court (HC) in Nainital has directed the State Government that their services should be continued till March 2018. The court has also asked the Public Service Commission (PSC) of Uttarakhand to expedite the process of permanent recruitment for these posts.

Acting on a review petition filed by lalit Mohan the bench of Chief Justice K M Joseph and Justice Alok Singh delivered the judgement. The petitioner has said that recently the HC had ordered that the guest teachers working as lecturer Teachers (lT) should be allowed to work in their posts till March 31, 2018 but no order was given for the guest teachers working as lecturers.

The guest teachers were appointed for a period of nine months or end of the academic session on purely contractual basis in the year 2015. When their contract was terminated in March 2016 they started a massive agitation which forced the then Congress Government to reinstate their services. The order was challenged in the court which cancelled their reinstatement. The matter then went to bench of HC which recently asked the State Government to initiate a proper recruitment process to fill vacant posts of teachers in the Government schools.

The court meanwhile granted temporary relief to the guest teachers working on posts of lTs and allowed them to work till March 2018. Following the order the State Government redeployed about 1,600 guest teachers.

The court order on Monday has now made things clear for the guest teachers working as lecturers.
