Several teachers' unions of Uttarakhand on Wednesday urged the State Education department to exempt women teachers aged 50 years and above from the list of compulsory teachers transfer under the Uttarakhand Teacher Transfer Policy.
It may be mentioned here that the education department has exempted male teachers aged 55 years and above and female teachers aged 52 years and above from compulsory teachers transfer list.
Uttarakhand Government Teachers Union (UGTU) president Karnail Singh said that he had recently met the Uttarakhand Education Minister Mantri Prasad Naithani and requested him to exempt women teachers aged 50 years and above from the list of compulsory teachers transfer. He said the Minister assured that the concerns would be addressed.
Singh further said that large number of teachers had reached his residence recently and requested him to raise their concerns regarding exemption for women teachers aged 50 years and above. Following this, the union had these concerns before the minister.
He further said that union does not oppose the release of teachers transfer under Uttarakhand Transfer Policy in the state but women teachers aged 50 years and above should be exempted from the transfer list. According to him, women aged 50 years would face difficulties to reach their schools if they are deployed in the remotest mountainous parts. The union will intensify its protests unless their demands are met, he warned.
School Education (basic) director Anil Kumar Negi said that Nainital, Bageshwar, Champawat, Udham Singh Nagar, Almora, Dehradun, Haridwar and Tehri districts released the first list of compulsory teachers transfer by Wednesday evening. In this list, male teachers aged 55 years and above and female teachers aged 52 years and above have been exempted. He expressed hope that Garhwal and Kumaon divisions and remaining districts would be able to release their list by Thursday.
However, Kumaon additional director Kusum Pant said that all the preparations for releasing list of compulsory teachers transfer have been completed. But she is waiting written assurance from the education department for releasing list of compulsory teachers transfer.
