After flak received from various quarters over the chief minister Trivendra Singh Rawat presiding over the review of the development works of Assembly constituencies represented only by the BJP MlAs, the state government has now decided to undertake district- wise review of the Assembly constituencies.
On Wednesda, the office of CM released the detailed review programmes of the development works. The order contained Assembly -wise programmes of the review to be done by the CM by video conferencing. The order said that the ministers in charges of the districts, MlAs of the Assemblies concerned and the chief secretary would remain present with the CM during the meeting.
The review programme which was to start from July 7 and scheduled till July 26 sparked a row as the opposition MlAs and others pilloried the government on its intention of holding the review of development activities of only 57 BJP-represented constituencies and leaving those represented by Congress and independents out in the cold. Former CM and senior BJP leader Ramesh Pokhariyal ‘ Nishank’ also expressed surprise over it and suggested that review of all 70 Assembly constituencies should be done by the CM. Nishank told Journalists that probably the CM would do review of the left-out Assembly constituencies in the second phase.
Coming close on the heels of the suspended teacher row, the review meeting controversy led the state government to quickly realise the blunder committed and go for the course correction before it blew into a another full-blown row.
It promptly released an amended order in which it was mentioned that the CM would undertake district- wise review of all the Assembly constituencies.
As per the revised order, the CM would hold Assembly segment- wise review of Dehradun district on July 7 to be followed by Haridwar district on July 9 and Udham Singh Nagar on July 10. Similarly, the review of the Assembly constituencies of Chamoli and Rudraprayag districts would be done on July 13 and on July 19 the CM would undertake review of Nainital district.
The development works of Pithoragarh and Champawat would be done on July 20 while on July 23 the same for Almora and Bageshwar would be done. On July 24, the CM would undertake review of Pauri while development works of Uttarkashi and Tehri would be reviewed on July 26.
