In another case of vigilance team swooping down on a Government officer found taking bribe, Ram Singh, a lekhpal posted in Maina Jhundi Tehsil of Sitarganj in Udham Singh Nagar district, was arrested on Tuesday when he was found pocketing a bribe of Rs 5, 500 from a person at his office. The accused Ram Singh had allegedly sought the bribe for providing residential address certificate, caste certificate and income certificate.
In his written complaint lodged with the vigilance Haldwani sector on April 27, Tarsem Singh, resident of Sitarganj, had stated that after submitting application online seeking the above certificates from the department concerned, he had approached lekhpal Ram Singh to complete the paper works.
As per the complainant, the lekhpal had sought Rs 7000 for completing the said work. Through persuasion, the amount had been finally reduced to Rs 5, 500, the complainant had said, adding that he had agreed to pay the bribe at his office on May 1.
The complainant had meanwhile approached SP, Haldwnai sector vigilance and registered a complaint over the same. The vigilance team members drafted a trap to catch the officer red-handed. A case under appropriate sections of Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 was subsequently registered against the accused in the vigilance department, sources said.
