While addressing a seminar at Rishikul Ayurvedic College, organised jointly by Vishwa Ayurved Parishad and Uttarakhand Ayurved University campus of Rishikul and Gurukul to take Ayurveda to the new generation in collaboration with Dabur India ltd, on Tuesday, State Ayush Minister Harak Singh Rawat said the State Government was considering to set up a ‘Charak Shodh Sansthan’ (research centre for Ayurveda) at Charak Tanda village in Kotdwar.
The theme of the seminar was ‘How Ayurveda can provide safe, cost-efficient and effective health care for all’. Rawat further said the Department of Ayush was committed to promote Ayurveda in the State and at the same time to help Ayurveda find a pride of place on the world platform.
The university campus Director Sunil Joshi said, “To mark the Charak Jayanti which falls on 28 July, numerous activities are going on in the college. To promote Ayurveda, a presentation was made by the team of doctors from Dabur India ltd focusing on Ras Rasayan.” He also said 100 sandalwood trees were planted in Chandan Watika in the college campus by way of celebrating 100 years of the college. The State Urban Development Minister, Madan Kaushik, initiated the plantation drive by planting a Chandan sapling.
A team of eminent doctors from leading drug manufacturers discussed the benefits and challenges in Ayurveda in the present era while stressing on using scientific technology in the matter of processing and manufacturing Ayurvedic medicines.
Speaking to The Pioneer, the head ethical marketing from Dabur Dr Durga Prasad said, “For the past 20 years, we have been promoting Ayurveda by conducting talk shows in colleges to encourage the younger generation to adopt the age-old science of Ayurveda in their lives. We hold awareness seminars at Nagar and Mahanagar levels and this is the first seminar held in the holy city.” The top five students are given fellowships by this pharmaceutical and healthcare company as a mark of appreciation, added Prasad.
Explaining how Ayurvedic drugs have an edge over the Allopathic medicines, Dr Shelendra Shukla said, “The allopathic medicines taken to cure stress always leave side effects, making the person lethargic while Ashwagandha extract based ‘Stresscom’ is clinically proven to ease nerves and reduce stress in people sans any side effect. The trend changing fast, even the Allopathic practitioners are prescribing plant- based medicines.”
Explaining the importance of sourcing the plant in Ayurveda industry Dinesh Kumar from Dabur said, “With the change in climate and soil of a place, the property of herbs also changes. Our scientists realised that Ashwagandha species grown in Nagor area of Rajasthan had the highest alkaloids. We thus develop the clones of the variety and give them to farmers and again buy them back from them. It is very important to maintain the efficacy of the drug.”
Notably, using Jamun, Karela, Methi and numerous other natural ingredients, Madhurakshak Ayurvedic medicine has been developed by Dabur in partnership with CCRAS (Ministry of Ayush, Government of India) which is being promoted to control Diabetes.
