In a major relief for candidates who had registered in the portal of National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS) for Diploma in Elementary Education (DlEd) course but were not successful in depositing fees or failed to get the required verification from their Principal till September 30, the Government has decided give another chance.
Additional Director VS Rawat said that the NIOS would allow such candidates to deposit the fees till October 5. Further these candidates can get their application verified from the Principal till October 10, he said.
This benefit could be availed only by the candidates who are registered in the NIOS till September 30. The education department was flooded with requests from many candidates that they were not able to deposit fees or get the necessary verification from the Principal within the stipulated time.
More than 41000 primary school teachers of Government and private schools got them registered for DElEd with the NIOS for its six month bridge course. However there were ten thousand such candidates who had not deposited the required fees. The new relaxation of time offered by the NIOS would benefit these candidates.
Recently the HRD ministry had directed that the teachers teaching primary students should compulsorily have the DElEd by March 2019 failing which they would be removed from their jobs. The Union Government has asked the State Governments to ensure that the all untrained teachers must register themselves for diploma course offered by NIOS. However the Government school teachers employed before September 03, 2001 were exempted from the exercise.
All teachers that are taking the classes from I to VIII irrespective of whether they hold Bachelor of Education (BEd) degree or not, are required to do DElEd if they want to continue teaching primary classes.
