RADHIKA NAGRATH

Six wagons of a goods train containing petrol and diesel got derailed near the Balwali bridge as a result of which 500 metres of the railway track got completely damaged. The derailment did not cause any human fatality.

The divisional railway manager has ordered a departmental probe into the mishap which is estimated to have caused loss amounting to crores of rupees to the railway. The mishap also affected the movement of trains which had to be diverted.

The six wagons containing fuel got derailed on Monday morning causing diesel leakage from the tilted tankers. The 50-wagon train was going from Piala to Najibabad at 6 AM when the accident occurred.

It is being said that two wagons of the goods train contained diesel while the other four carried petrol.

Speaking to The Pioneer, divisional railway manager Pramod Kumar said, “Prima facie it appears to have been caused by rail fracture. The rail track joint was damaged but it is not confirmed whether it got damaged before or after the derailment. We are probing the case in detail. The estimated losses cannot be ascertained at this stage. We are examining the site with an inquiry also being set up. We expect to ascertain the cause of derailment soon. The train was going from a part of Northern Railway near Palwal when the mishap occurred a little ahead of Raisi,” he said. Following the derailment some of the train routes were diverted from Saharanpur to Gajrala.
