Garhwal Mandal Vikas Nigam employees in Joshimath observed a complete work boycott to protest in support of their demands here on Wednesday. The employees staged a protest at the old tourist rest house and elicited focus on their demands. They have demanded proactive action by the Government on their various pending demands, including DPC and regularisation of employees. The employees are also against implementation of the Public Private Partnership mode and alleged anomalies in appointments made to the corporation.
Members of the various employees organisations of the GMVN gathered at the old tourist rest house and raised slogans against Gvernment policies. Boycotting their work in protest, the employees also strongly objected to changing the management of the corporation’s tourist rest house to PPP mode. The protesting employees also addressed a memorandum to the chief minister Harish Rawat raising their six major demands. In the memorandum, the employees have demand that the Garhwal and Kumaon Mandal Vikas Nigams should be merged and its employees be declared State Government employees. They have also demanded cancellation of the existing revenue and mining policy with implementation of the old policy, disbursal of payments to employees working since 2000 and swift compensation for expense incurred on repairing and redecorating tourist rest houses damaged in the 2013 disaster. The employees are slated to attend a divisional level meeting on September 9 to chalk out a plan to pressurise the State in favour of their demands.
