The vehicles used for door to door collection of garbage in Dehradun will soon have Global Positioning System (GPS) installed on them.
This decision has been taken in order to keep a proper check on the working of vehicles and to ascertain whether the vehicles reach the assigned wards or not.
The chief medical officer at Municipal Corporation of Dehradun, Dr Kailash Joshi said, “We have been getting complaints that the door to door garbage collection vehicles do not reach the assigned place on time or do not the place at all. The installation of GPS will ensure that the garbage is being collected through the vehicles from every assigned ward.”
It is pertinent to mention that the MCD has about 42 garbage collection vehicles that are currently working in the provisional state capital. These 42 vehicles are currently able to provide the door to door garbage collection facility properly in 30 to 40 municipal wards. However, the vehicles are not able to give their services properly in all of the old 60 wards. Considering this, ensuring proper door to door garbage collection service in the newly added 40 wards stills remains a big challenge for the corporation apparently struggling to fulfill its responsibilities in all the 100 wards under its jurisdiction.
