Kanvashram near Kotdwar in Pauri district is also the birthplace of emperor Bharat after whom the civilisation of India was named. A place of such immense historical importance is lying desolate even today though the Malini river flowing through the area and dense tree cover make the area a very picturesque place which must be developed into a tourist attraction, said the State Forest minister Harak Singh Rawat while calling upon the Union Tourism minister Mahesh Sharma in the national capital on Wednesday.
Rawat requested Sharma to facilitate release of all the necessary funds for capitalising on the tourism potential of the historically important Kanvashram. He also requested that Kanvashram also be displayed on the union tourism ministry’s official website and tourism folder. The union minister agreed to this request and directed ministry officials to do the needful.
The Uttarakhand forest minister further informed that apart from the Ramnagar gate, the State Government had also decided to open a gate to the Corbett national park at Kotdwar. The distance from Delhi to Kotdwar is 220 kilometres compared to the 245 kilometres distance between Delhi and Ramnagar. Opening of the gate in Kotdwar will help save the time and resources of tourists while also providing better facilities for visitors.
Rawat also requested the union tourism minister that Kotdwar also be displayed on the tourism map of the tourism ministry. Sharma assured that the Union Government will provide all possible cooperation in all tourism related issues of Uttarakhand.
