The amount of Rs4 crore handed over to the Doon hospital by the State Government appears to have proved too little as the pending payments of the hospital are much higher. The state government recently released the amount for Doon and other government hospitals when the vendors of these hospitals threatened to stop the supplies due to huge over-dues. The Uttarakhand Power Corporation limited (UPCl) had even threatened cut the power supplies to Doon hospital.
The hospital authorities reveal that the government has released the budget of third quarter but due to large pending payments they are only giving part payments to the vendors. These vendors could be seen either cajoling or insisting the hospital officials that all their dues are cleared by the hospital. It was revealed that the hospital is giving only 55 percent of total dues to the vendors. One of the officials said that they are keeping a corpus for paying the salaries of the contractual staff and are disbursing the remaining amount to the vendors.
The Principal Medical Superintendent (PMS) of Doon hospital Dr R S Aswal informed that the hospital owes more than Rs 6 Crores to the vendors and it has received only Rs 4 Crore as third installment. He said that the hospital would soon hand over the utilization certificate (UC) to the health directorate once the amount is disbursed. The annual budget of the hospital is about Rs 12 Crores which it receives in four quarterly installments.
