Fulfilled OROP demands as an ode to ex-servicemen's contribution: PM

lauding Utarakhand as the  State that mothers innumerable soldiers  who are shedding blood while safeguarding  the country’s frontiers, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said his government had fulfilled the  long pending demand of One Rank One Pension (OROP) in grateful remembrance of  the contribution made by the ex-servicemen. “Seldom we find a house in Uttarakhand which has not sent its ward in the defence services,” he said. Taking a dig at his predecessor, he said  he had made a provision of `500 crore on this head. “ But actually the nation would pay `10,000 crore per annum by way of meeting the  demand,”  he said.

Dwelling on his theme of  development tinged with working for the girls, he  said  each village dotted across the nation would get electricity by 2022  and his government has constructed more than four lakh toilets in the schools to ensure the girls come there for studies . “From now onwards, no girl will drop out from the  schools due to unavailability of toilets,” PM said.

Referring to Prime Minister Jan Dhan Yojna, he said the banks nationalized  around 40 years ago  to facilitate people’s participation in banking  services have  failed  to rise to the occasion.  “After  we launched Prime Minister Jan Dhan Yojna in September  last 17 crore new bank accounts have been opened in the banks,” he said.

Talking umbrage  at Congress, he said the principal  Opposition party has been playing  negative politics. “This  is why they are not allowing the Parliament  to debate on the crucial public issues. It seems they are yet to digest the  fact that the people have rejected them outright for practising  anti- poor policies,”  he  said.
