Renowned academician and vice-chancellor of two prominent universities of Uttarakhand, Doon University and Doon Technical University, VK Jain talked with The Pioneer on sidelines of the seminar on the World Earth Day.
He said that the new generation should be taught about the frugal and justified usage of resources and this habit should be inculcated into them from an early age. Jain said that the solution for the problem of environment lies in shifting the carbon based economy to the carbon free economy. He said that for sustainable habitat the concept of green homes and energy efficient green cities is needed and these concepts are catching the imagination of planners now. Blaming the USA for not following the Kyoto
protocol Jain praised the European countries for reducing their carbon emissions. Jain said that the Indian Government is working on increasing the solar energy usage, increasing energy efficiency of systems and implementation of proper Water Resource Management so that the carbon footprints are reduced substantially.
