Frost for hills, fog for plains, Mercury to dip further

PNS

Mercury is likely to dip further across the State with the possibility of ground frost forming in the hills and mist forming in the plains of the State during the morning hours on Sunday. However, the climate would remain generally dry across the State on the day, said the regional meteorological centre in its weather forecast.

The long-awaited process of mercury dip has already set in, bringing the feel of real, biting winter. The weather officers said that the mercury would continue to dip now for some days.

As per the weather forecast issued by the centre on Saturday, ground frost might form at places in the hills during the morning hours while the morning would be generally foggy in the plains of the state. The sky would be partly cloudy to generally clear, though there is little likelihood of rain anywhere in the State on Sunday.

Though the climate would remain generally dry in Dehradun  on Sunday mist  might envelop a large swathe of the district during the early morning hours of the day, according to the forecast. The weather men further said that the narrowing of the gulf between the maximum and the minimum temperatures accounts for the real winter feel. The less the gulf the more the chill, they said and added that both the maximum and the minimum temperatures would progressively come down in the coming days.

Dehradun might wake up to a foggy morning and the minimum temperature is likely settle at around 6 degree Celsius. On Saturday too, the minimum temperature hovered in the neighbourhood of 6 degree Celsius, a little below the normal.

In Dehradun, while the maximum temperature settled at 22.8 degree Celsius, normal, the minimum was 6.7 degree Celsius, one notch below the normal.

Elsewhere in the state, in Pantnagar, the maximum and minimum temperatures were recorded at 23.1 degree Celsius and 4.8 degree Celsius, respectively. In Mukteshwar, the maximum and minimum temperatures were recorded at 12.9 degree Celsius and 3.9 degree Celsius. In New Tehri, the maximum and minimum temperatures recorded were 16.5 degree Celsius and 5 degree Celsius respectively.
