Four lakh passengers utilised lalkuan junction

PNS

Despite the limited facilities available at lalkuan railway junction for passengers, a record number of people used this railway station in 2014. More than four lakh people travelled to and from this railway junction last year.

According to official sources, 4,30,470 persons used the lalkuan junction last year. However, the discontinuation of the private siding facility for goods here has resulted in a considerable decrease in the rail freight revenue.

Considering that lalkuan is a major railway junction in the Kumaon region, the facilities for passengers are considerably less with leaking platform roof, platform without shed and inadequate facilities for seating of passengers and other members of the public at the railway station. In spite of these drawbacks, the passengers have continued to use the lalkuan railway station. About two dozen trains including the Ranikhet Express, Bagh Express to Kolkata, Uttaranchal Sampark Kranti, Jammu Tawi Express, Shatabdi Express, Garib Rath train to Kanpur, Ramnagar-Bandra Express and Moradabad Passenger train ply through the lalkuan junction.

According to information provided by official sources, a total of 3,55,968 people travelled in passenger trains operating from this railway station generating a revenue of Rs 34487378 for the railways. There are presently four platforms at this railway station. The railway authorities have started work on construction of a fifth platform. The introduction of the new platform is expected to further enhance the operation of this railway junction in the future.
