Four armed criminals forcibly confined the members of families living in two separate homes in Nayagaon under Patelnagar police station area and decamped with lakhs of rupees on Sunday night. This incident occurred along the roadside in Nayagaon, Patelnagar, few kilometres away from the Nayagaon police post.
Increasing incidents of crimes including robbery, loot, burglary, chain snatching and other offenses in the state capital in the last few days show that fear of the police is not much of a deterrent for criminals operating in the State capital. Police had somehow managed to control crime cases a month ago but these have once again risen in recent days. Critics opined that lack of verification drive and police patrolling or police following same route of patrolling daily are some of the reasons for increasing crime cases in the city.
Patelnagar police officer said that in his complaint, Khem Chandra Joshi said that four armed men entered his home at around 11 pm on Sunday and looted cash and jewellery amounting to lakhs of rupees after confining the family members in a room. The criminals switched off all the lights of the house and took away all the mobile phones from the family members. later, these four armed criminals forced Joshi to knock the door of his neighbour Naveen Sharma's home. Sharma opened the door on hearing Joshi's voice, which gave the criminals the opportunity to force their entry into his home. Here too, the armed goons confined the family members into a room and decamped with cash and jewellery. At the time when the armed criminals were robbing residents, policemen on patrol are reported to have passed in front of the homes but did not get an inkling about the crime being committed. An FIR has been lodged against unidentified persons under appropriate sections of the IPC in the Patelnagar police station.
Recently, in a meeting with police officers, Dehradun Senior Superintendent of Police Ajay Rautela had expressed disappointment at increasing crime cases in the city and had directed officers to take measures for putting a check on crime cases in the state capital. It is pertinent to mention here that despite the orders and claims of the police, the men in khaki have not been able to ensure efficient policing in the State capital with even the beat patrolling system not yet been implemented effectively inspite of repeated instructions to this effect by various senior police officers.
