Chief Minister Harish Rawat on Monday called for improving the level of education sector in the State and further said that considering the present era of competition, special focus on quality in primary education should be given.

Speaking at the annual festival of Shahid Durgamall Government College, Doiwala, the Chief Minister said the base for education was widespread in Uttarakhand, but the quality was not abreast with present requirements.

He stated that the teachers alone were not responsible for bringing about the desired improvement in the quality of education as the Government and society were also responsible for this.

Wishing the students present at the event a bright future, the Rawat said that the present age was that of being excellent among the excellent. Giving emphasis on women education, Rawat stressed on the need for providing women the chance to progress in all aspects of life.

“An atmosphere will have to be developed in society which motivates the women to achieve progress in their career. One will also have to consider how to make better use of the limited resources,” said the Chief Minister.

He said that in a democracy, thoughts might differ but the aim should be the same - development of the nation and welfare of the people. There was need for united effort to help the State resurface from the damage wreaked by disaster last year, he added.

Students of the college presented a cultural programme on the occasion for which former CM and Doiwala MlA Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank’ was the special guest. Director, Higher Education, Dr Mukul Pant, college principal Dr Harshwanti Bisht, faculty members and office bearers of the students union were also among those present on the occasion.
