Flyover construction: Routes changed to avoid traffic jams

PNS

To solve the recurring problem of traffic jams being faced by the commuters of Dehradun because of the under-construction flyover at Ballupur and Balliwala areas, SP Traffic PK Rai on Tuesday interacted with the the local residents of the areas over the necessity of changing the routes till the flyover project is over. The residents of these areas are suffering as the roads are waterlogged, resulting in traffic jams whenever it rains.

It was decided during the meeting that the drivers of heavy vehicles- truck, dumper and loader- bound for Sahaspur via Ballupur, Balliwala- Prem Nagar from IBST, would follow the routes ISBT- Sahaspur via Shimla bypass, Nayagoan. While returning from Sahaspur, they would follow the routes Harbertpur- Jhajhra- Nayagaon to ISBT.

To prevent accidents, five police pickets will be set up between Mehuwala to Gorakhpur Chowk and Gorakhpur Chowk to Bhuddi Chowk. Cheetah police would patrol these areas to check over- speeding. Speed- breakers and signboards warning against over-speeding will be set up along these routes. The new routes would be in use till flyover project is completed at Ballupur and Balliwala. The new rule   will be enforced from Wednesday and action will be taken against those who are caught violating the rules, SP Rai added.
