Five contractual workers of Rashtriya Madhyamik Shiksha Abhiyan (RMSA) who climbed atop a water tank at Pavilion Ground Dehradun since July 29 were continuing with their stir on Saturday.
Meanwhile, to express solidarity with their stir from the overhead tank, some association members staged a sit-in in the Pavilion Ground and raised slogans against the State Government for its alleged apathy over their demands. However, the association members have not disclosed the names of the agitators who are perched on the water tank as part of the stir.
To resolve the logjam, Dehradun City Magistrate lalit Narayan Mishra held a meeting with the association members on Saturday evening. Additional City Magistrate Jitendra Kumar said they had two rounds of talks with the agitators and said they would assure that their demands would be addressed. But they refused to get down, saying that the stir would continue till the State Government passed an order (GO), fulfilling their demand of prompt reinstatement.
Another round of dialogue was continuing while this story was being filed.
President of the association, Vivek Bhatt said they had been protesting over the past many months and submitted memorandums to the political executives through administrative officers. The Government had earlier assured them that it would fulfil their demands, but it had not yet released any order so far, he said.
RMSA workers have been agitating on single point agenda of renewal of their contracts. The Education department had terminated services of 1,256 outsource employees of RMSA after the Central Government had stopped funding their salaries from March this year
It should be mentioned here that during last month, some RMSA members had climbed atop water tank to draw the attention of the State Government towards their pending demand. They climbed down after being assured by the State Government regarding fulfilment of their demands.
