Newly-constructed firing range building at Reserve Police line here is set to get sophisticated high-tech equipments soon since police department started process to purchase the equipments.

Process for the same began after some senior officials expressed keen interest in starting the range for practice. The equipments, including baffles, walls, butte, and sound suppressors, are to be set up in the building that is ready for use from the last few months.

Some of the specific equipments would be imported from abroad.  The department is likely to get the equipments within one and half months.

The police department will spend around Rs 2.7 crore to purchase the equipments. The range would be completely hi-tech in nature. It would have remote controlled target bullet trap. It would also have anti-ricochet covering baffles and sound suppressors, especially designed for the firing ranges.

As the firing ground building is underground, it would require special ventilation system to throw out fumes caused during firing practice. Apart from it, security apparatuses would also be set up. The range will also be decorated with armoured plates.

Deputy inspector general of police (DIG) Amit Sinha is taking keen interest to make the range functional soon as possible. “Efforts are on to get the specific equipments required for the range. As soon as we get the equipments, these will be set up in the range.”

Sinha further added that it may take around two months in the process because some of the equipments are specific in nature and these would be imported. “All steps required to make the range ready for practice is being taken. It would start functioning within two months.”

Sinha said that opening of the firing range would enhance efficiency of the police personnel since platform for the practice would be available for them.
