The female patients in the State Mental Health Institute at Selaqui will be shifted to Dehradun Nari Niketan once the threat of Covid-19 subsides and the situation returns to normal in the State. The director of women welfare directorate, Yogendra Yadav said this while talking to The Pioneer.
According to the administration of the said mental health institute, there is no bed left for any new patients due to all the general wards being fully occupied. The number of patients currently admitted in the institute is already more than the usual limit of the number of patients in general wards of men and women, as per the staff.
Furthermore, the female mental patients were supposed to be shifted to Nari Niketan but it couldn't happen due to the lockdown to curb Covid-19 pandemic. However, the patients have not been shifted so far even in Unlock 2.
Talking about the reason of not shifting the female patients to Nari Niketan, Yadav said that the risk of Covid-19 contagion is still very high at present and since the number of patients is constantly increasing in the State, it would not be wise to transfer the patients to a new place in the current scenario.
He said that the female patients will be transferred once the situation settles down to somewhat normal.
Moreover, he also informed that all the mental patients are being properly taken care of by the hospital administration.
He said that a team from Chennai had also arrived a few weeks back for the special examination of the female patients and only those who were found to be fit in the reports will be sent to Nari Niketan.
