Farmers seek CBI probe for inability to procure urea

PNS

Regional farmers here have sent a memorandum to the Prime Minister Narendra Modi complaining that farmers are not able to procure urea inspite of the State Government receiving more than the allocated quota of urea allocated to the State. They have demanded a CBI inquiry.

The farmers have stated that IFFCO has been licensed by the Government to provide urea and fertiliser to the States as per their requirement. In Pauri, the Kisan Seva Cooperative Committee Sukhro Devi temple was to be provided 60 tonnes of urea, of which only 45 tonnes has been received. The cultivators in the region require urea for their paddy fields but not urea has been supplied for the last one month. The IFFCO general manager (Marketing) informed the farmers that Uttarakhand was provided 9,377 metric tonnes of urea against its quota of 8,000 metric tonnes. The State has received 1,377 metric tonnes of urea more than its quota.

While officials state that Uttarakhand has received more than its allocated quota, the farmers appear anxious due to unavailability of the same. Farmer leader Patiram Dhyani, Panchayat representatives from Balasaud, Harisinghpur and others were among those who submitted the memorandum to the official concerned.
