The successful Mangalyaan mission has put India in the elite club of countries that have successfully orbited a spacecraft around Mars and the achievement is even more significant considering the fact that Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) scientists were successful in their first attempt.
Former Member of Planning Commission, eminent scientist, recipient of Padma Vibhushan and former Chairman of ISRO Dr Krishnaswamy Kasturirangan said this while speaking as chief guest on the occasion of convocation of Graphic Era University here on Friday.
Dr Krishnaswamy Kasturirangan said that India is expected to over take France, the UK and Russian to become world’s fifth largest economy by 2017. He also prophesied that India shall surpass Japan and will be third largest economy in the world by 2030.
The former ISRO Chairman said that though India leads the world in production of milk and is second largest producer of fruits and vegetables, the lack of proper cold storage warehouses is cause of concern as large scale wastage of commodities occurs due to this.
In his address the president of Graphic Era University Kamal Ghanshala appealed the students to serve the nation first and asked them to engage in research work and be entrepreneurs. He claimed that about 90 per cent of the students have got their placements even before passing out from the University.
In the convocation ceremony degrees were conferred to 5425 passed out students of various disciplines like M.Tech, MCA, MSc, MBA B.Tech, BBA, BCA, BSc, Hotel Management and BJMC of the year 2012, 2013 and 2014.
