Regarding the high court’s earlier order of collecting due house rents for Government bungalows at market rate from ex-chief ministers in six months, former chief ministers Bhagat Singh Koshyari and Vijay Bahuguna have filed a review petition in the high court. In his petition, Koshyari has stated that he is being charged rent at the rate of Rs 30,500 per month.
The bungalow that had been allotted to him is a property of the Irrigation department and it is this department which should be collecting the rent. However, he had received the rent payment notice from the State Government. Similarly, in his petition, Bahuguna has stated that the rent in his case was fixed at Rs 39,000 per month.
It is pertinent to mention here that in the Public Interest Litigation filed in the high court by Dehradun-based Rural Litigation and Entitlement Kendra (RLEK), the State Government had submitted its report in the court according to which the five ex chief ministers of the state owed about Rs 2.85 crore in house rent to the state government.
While the dues of Koshyari are stated to be about Rs 47 lakh, the dues of Bahuguna are about Rs 37 lakh.
