SUNIl KUMAR

PM Narendra Modi’s metaphorical reference to corruption in Uttarakhand through his scooter scam swipe and its repercussion in the form of     judicial inquiry ordered by CM has prodded  the former CM Vijay Bahuguna to shoot off a letter on Thursday to the  Chief Secretary, seeking  details of the   CS-chaired  inquiry into the  disaster information commissioner’s order on RTI reply regarding the 2013 disaster relief scam. Notably, Bahuguna remains in the eye of the raging controversy as  he was the CM when the disaster happened and during its aftermath.

Observers feel that it is a tactical move by the former CM to put the spotlight on the CM. He asked the CS to clarify what type of follow-up action the state administration has taken  on what the report said writing mistake.  He demanded assurance on the action taken on the errant employees.

Notably, as per the RTI reply, scooters were shown as guzzling 35 liters as against their fuel tanks’ capacity of 5 liter.

Soon after the PM made a reference to it, the Congress brass alleged that the principal player was sharing the dais with the PM when the latter referred to it, meaning Bahuguna.

Bahuguna mentioned in his letter that in April 15, 2015 Uttarakhand information commissioner had found anomalies in June 2013 disaster relief works.

IC had found that the tanks of vehicles sporting number UA-07A--0881 and UK-05A-0840 were  filled with  25 liter and 15 liter respectively. later, it was revealed that the vehicles  concerned  were scooters.
