An inmate of Nari Niketan, located at Nehru Colony in the city, who escaped on Sunday, was caught from Vikasnagar on Tuesday, said a Nehru Colony police station officer Rajesh Sah on Tuesday evening.
She had reportedly escaped from the Nari Niketan after jumping the wall with the help of a rope on Sunday noon. Earlier on the direction of Dehradun senior superintendent of police Nivedita Kukreti, several teams were formed to trace the inmate.
Team members accordingly conducted checking drives at various places like ISBT and railway station. Police said that the inmate aged around 28 years was being questioned at the police station on why she had fled from Nari Niketan. On Monday, the State woman commission chairperson Sarojani Kaintura and secretary Ramindri Mandrawal had inspected Nari Niketan and asked the inmates about the behaviour of Niketan officials with them and other issues related to them.
They also inspected the Niketan premises and reviewed the facilities provided to the inmates.
This is not the first time that the inmates have escaped from the Nari Niketan and Balika Niketan, both located in the State Capital. Statistics reveal that several times in the past, inmates escaped from the Niketan despite the State Government authorities having claimed to have taken several measures to stop the inmates from escaping.
