PNS

The officials should ensure that the people are not deprived of potable drinking water during the summer season.

The school education, Sanskrit education, Peyjal and student welfare Minister Mantri Prasad Naithani said this while taking a review meeting of officers of Peyjal Nigam and Uttarakhand Jal Sansthan on Friday.

He said that the department would install 200 mini tube wells in the blocks facing water scarcity.

The Minister was told that posts of 200 assistant engineers are vacant in the Peyjal nigam and the Jal Sansthan is working with only 118 assistant engineers. The shortage of the staff is affecting the implementation of many projects.

Naithani asked the senior officers to fill the vacant posts by the means of outsourcing.

The modalities for merger of the Peyjal Nigam and Jal Sansthan were also discussed in the meeting and it was decided that the State Government should take total control of these department before the proposed merger.

Talking about the river bed filtration project the minister said the project is an ambitious one and efforts should be made to launch the project from Uttarakhand.

He asked the officials to conduct a detailed survey of the regions where potable water could be provided to the people from the lift pumping projects on the river sides.

The Minister asked the engineers to use the river bed filtration technique on these projects and constitute a cell for the purpose.

Naithani said that the issue of technical problems arising in the centrally sponsored schemes should be brought to the notice of Chief Minister.

He said that efforts for augmentation of natural water resources of the State should be made and solar pumping schemes to supply waters in the villages should be given priority.

The Minister said that the problem of water scarcity in the villages of the State would be removed by the year 2016.

The meeting was attended by additional chief secretary S Raju, General Manager of Jal Sansthan SK Gupta and other officers.
