The chairperson of State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (SCPCR), Usha Negi has written a letter to the chief education officer of Dehradun regarding the collection of school fees of the last four months from the parents of students by a private school. According to the letter, a private school sent messages to the parents asking them to deposit the full amount of the fee from April to July but as per the recent State Government orders, the schools can charge only the tuition fee from parents.
Negi mentioned further in the letter about parents complaining that the summer vacation is to make children relaxed but in the last few months children have been sitting with mobile phones and computers for their studies which is negatively affecting their physical and mental health but school management is not providing them any relaxation.
Therefore, the schools should not compel students to attend any classes in the summer vacation, added Negi. Besides this, Negi also mentioned a viral video in which the parents are standing in long queues to deposit the school fee of children despite the Government's orders to prevent crowding in the current pandemic.
Therefore, it is also important to ensure whether the guidelines are being followed in the schools of Dehradun.
In the letter, she directed the chief education officer to look into these issues, investigate them and submit the report in the commission within 15 days.
