Opposing the move of the Irrigation Department officials of removing encroachment in the cold and wintry weather, locals of Kabadi Bazar near Haridwar bypass submitted a memorandum to the Dehradun Mayor, Vinod Chamoli, under the leadership of BJP councillor, Satish Kashyap on Saturday.
Around 400 families have illegally encroached land at Kabadi Bazar area. Officials of Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD) use to conduct their anti encroachment drive from time to time and these encroachments are also removed every year. But MCD has been unsuccessful in removing the encroachment on permanent basis. Encroachers complaining about this move of the officials said that “we are residing there from last 15 years and would not free the land.”
Stating their complaint to the Mayor, locals demanded to provide shelter and then shift them to some other place. Complainants said most them have mud houses, which are broken every year by the officials. They said that many of their houses are already demolished by the administration on the name of widening of the road.
Satish Kashyap, a BJP councillor urged the Mayor to not to remove the encroachments in this wintery season. Among those present in the complainants were Suresh Saini, Aafzat, Mobin, Salim, Sushil, Rajesh, Anwar, Manoj and many others.
