PNS

People in different localities of the State capital are unhappy with the deteriorating level of sanitation in Dehradun.A combination of factors like official inefficiency and lack of civic sense among the citizens is responsible for the once green and clean Doon now being marked with garbage dumped in open public places and its rivers turning into little more than sewers.

The locals complaint that in spite of repeated complaints to the authorities, the officials have not yet facilitated the required steps.Talking to The Pioneer, senior city health officer at MCD, Dr RK Singh said that the corporation was taking serious cognisance of this issue and would soon achieve positive results.  Some people who lacked civic sense throw garbage in the open which was exacerbating the problem. The cooperation of the local residents was equally important along with official efforts in order to keep the city clean, he added.

Senior citizen at Survey Chowk, Ram Singh said that the level of sanitation in Dehradun was very disappointing compared to the surroundings about a decade ago. Seema Negi from Darshanlal Chowk said that the present level of sanitation is deplorable considering that the city was considered to be among the green and clean cities of the nation till some year ago.
