Doon residents reel under severe power crunch

PNS

Dehradun residents have been reeling under severe power cut spells for the past few days. The power department officials ascribe the power cuts to winds and rain in the city as well as to repair/ maintenance works being undertaken by the department.

In Dalanwala area, several spells of undeclared power cuts were reported on Monday, leaving the residents inconvenienced.

The citizens resent the power cuts which are disrupting their normal life while wondering over why power cuts follow rain. They also say that even when it does not rain power cuts happen.  Repairing/ maintenance works being undertaken by the department at regular intervals are failing to rid them of the power cut problem, they say.

Manisha, resident of Raipur, said that the frequent power outages dragging for the past few days have spawned acute drinking water problem in the area they are residing in. “Water supply is erratic,” she said.

Anand, resident of Vikaslok, echoed the same, saying that the power department officers must adequately explain why power cuts of long duration are happening.

Frequent power outages are being reported from several places like Kewal Vihar, Sahastradhara, Vikaslok and Dalanwala for the past few days.

Quizzed on why such frequent spells of power cuts are happening and for how long it would continue, a power official said that Sahastradhara and Dalanwala areas are having the power cuts due to the ongoing essential works, including fixing of the snags in  the transformers, changing wires and rectifying other faults.

“We are now working on war-footing to complete such works at the earliest. Things would be normal in a day or two,” he assured. The need of the hour is to solve it soon.
