Don't cause traffic jams, schools told

PNS

Traffic jams caused by vehicles dropping and picking up students from schools in the district have become a regular nuisance for the public.  In an attempt to prevent such traffic jams, the Dehradun district administration has directed the schools to ensure that vehicles that drop or pick up students do so from inside the school campus and not on road.

Traffic congestion on various roads outside schools especially in the urban areas has become a regular feature during the opening and closing times of the schools. The main reason for the traffic jam is the vehicles used by schools and parents of students to drop and pick up the students from school.

Acting on the directions of the district magistrate, the city magistrate Dr lN Mishra directed principals/managers of all schools located in urban areas of the district to ensure that the vehicles of students’ parents dropping their wards to school should be made to enter the campus from one gate and exit from the other gate. Arrangements should be made to ensure that the students alight from and board vehicles inside the campus in order to prevent traffic congestion on roads.

The city magistrate has stressed that the school management should observe the directions of the district magistrate and facilitate the parking along with boarding and de-boarding of students inside the school campus. The school management will be responsible for the legal action that will be taken against any school if any of its vehicles or the vehicles of its students’ parents is found parked on the road.
