It is an acknowledged fact that the doctors get a healthy commission from the branded medicines they prescribe to the patients. The presence of the large number of the Medical Representatives (MR) in the hospital campus is also questionable as apart from consuming valuable time of the doctors they virtually lure the doctors to prescribe the medicines of their company. The sources revealed that huge amount of money is involved in the game of commissions and the medical companies happily transfer the commission percentage to the doctors who oblige them.
It is worth mentioning here that the Doon hospital also has a Jan Aaushadhi Kendra where generic medicines are available at a very cheap rate but the doctors prescribe such branded medicines which are not available with them either. The pharmacist sitting at this counter revealed that only 40-50 patients of hospital visit the counter daily. The whole issue clearly shows that though the doctors are earning mullah it is the ordinary patients who are suffering the most.
