The officials of Doon Medical College (DMC) are preparing to get their act together for the forthcoming visit of team of Medical Council of India (MCI).

The visit of the MCI assumes significance as the earlier team which visited the proposed medical college this month had pointed several shortcomings and asked the authorities to get them rectified. It is learnt that the team of MCI can visit anytime after January 30.

The Principal of DMC, Dr Pradeep Bharati Gupta told The Pioneer that work on the all the pending works is going satisfactorily. He said that second round of walk in interviews for the faculty positions would be held on February 01 and 02.

In this round the college would include those faculty positions along with newly constituted posts in which the selected candidates have not joined.  Dr Gupta said that the process of procurement of laboratory and other equipments is going on and it is expected to be completed soon.

The nod of MCI is necessary for the all important recognition of the proposed medical college. On January 05 and 06 a three member team consisting of Dr R K Maheshwari of Swai Man Singh (SMS) Medical College Jaipur, Dr S Vishwanathan of Stanley Medical College, Chennai and Dr Vinay Agarwal of Meerut Medical College visited the facilities in the college. The team listed some shortcomings and asked the college to get them completed before next visit.

The State Government has put up the DMC on its top priority so much so that the Chief Minister Harish Rawat and Medical education Minister Harak Singh Rawat are personally monitoring the progress of the Medical College which is keeping the construction agency on tenterhooks for speedy disposal of work. The DMC is coming up at different sites in the city. The state government has amalgamated the Doon hospital and Doon Women hospital in the Medical college.

A multi story Out Patient Department (OPD) of the Medical College is being constructed near Tehsil Chowk in the city while the administrative and academic blocks of the college set up at Dehra Khas area located in Patel Nagar.

While the construction activity in the associated hospital is far from over the DMC officials are putting major focus on completing the administrative and the academic blocks as the I year MBBS students do not require to visit the hospital initially.
