Cameras should be installed on trial basis on two ambulances as part of measures to help improve the traffic plan in Dehradun. Further, the accident prone areas in the districts should be identified and in addition to inspections by officials concerned, concrete steps should be taken to mitigate road accidents. The Dehradun district magistrate SA Murugesan said this while chairing a meeting of the road safety committee at the collectorate here on Friday.

The DM directed the officials concerned to come up with a concrete work plan and a traffic plan to curb road accidents in the district. Murugesan further directed that the electricity poles on the roadside which pose a hindrance to the movement of traffic should be moved. Till such poles are removed, radium strips should be put on them to warn road users of their presence. He also directed officials of Mussoorie Dehradun Development Authority (MDDA) to put up two closed circuit television cameras on trial basis on two ambulances of the government Doon medical college hospital in order to get inputs for improving the traffic plan. The district magistrate also directed officials of the Public Works Department and the Municipal Corporation of Dehradun to ensure that construction material are removed from roadsides to ensure that such materials do not pose a hindrance to the smooth flow of traffic.
