To discourage sacrifice of animals at a festival to be held in Nepal from November 24 to November 29, 2014, Uttarakhand Government has banned export of animals to the neighbouring country.
Acting on this, the Nainital district administration has directed the officials concerned of the district to prevent export of animals to Nepal in view of the aforesaid festival.
Emphasising the need to strictly ban export of animals to Nepal, Deepak Rawat, District Magistrate, Nainital, has directed the officials concerned of the district administration to keep vigil on important points so that such activities could be strictly stopped.
The step of banning export of animals to Nepal is being taken to discourage animal sacrifice during the Gadhimai festival which is going to be held at Bariyapur in Nepal, he added.
Meanwhile, the Champawat district police have also called for banning export of animals to Nepal, saying the state animal husbandry department or, for that matter, the Government of Uttarakhand has not issued no- objection certificate (NOC) to any of the exporters to export animals to Nepal. Therefore, export of animals to Nepal would not be allowed from here for the festival. Defaulters would be strictly dealt with, asserted the district police, Champawat.
At the same time, it has also urged the citizens to inform the police control room at toll free number-- 100 in case they come across any such case of exporting animals to Nepal so that necessary steps could be taken to stop such activity.
It is to be noted that India has a long and open border with Nepal along Champawat district.
