It is not the jurisdiction of the district administration to issue order allowing the Principal enter the college campus or debarring him, said Dehradun District Magistrate Ravinath Raman while addressing the students’ leaders and college’s teaching and non-teaching staff at DAV (PG) College on Monday evening. He hastened to add that the college principal should not attend the college on moral grounds when inquiry has been ordered against him over irregularity in admission process and financial irregularities involving college funds.
Raman said he would write to the State Government for a high level inquiry into allegations leveled against the principal.
To resolve the stand-off between students’ leaders and college management, Dehradun DM Raman and SSP Dr Sadanand Shankar Rao Date met the students’ leaders and college teaching and non-teaching staff in the college premises on Monday evening.
Date said that no one will be allowed to take laws in their hands and create law and order problem in the city. He appealed to the students’ leaders to call off their strike and co-operate with the college administration for smooth functioning of the institute. Date said that the issues raised by the students’ leaders are internal matters of the college. “Administration has nothing to do with them. However, we are duty-bound to ensure that the students do not create any problem for the common people. Everyone has right to protest peacefully in support of demand. Administrative and police officers are trying their best to resolve the issues,” he added.
DM Raman said that it is due to the failure of the college management that the situation had come to such a sorry pass. “Had they acted rightly and in the nick of time things would have eased. The college management, university and State government are empowered to probe charges involving the college principal.
The administration has nothing to do in this regard. However, no one will be allowed to disrupt public life,” he said.
A students’ leader Anshul Chawla said that they would co-operate the college administration to ensure that the college runs smoothly but they would oppose tooth and nail the principal’s entry in the college.
