The officials of the district administration is all set for the upcoming three-tier Panchayat election, which is scheduled to be held in three phase on March 8, 11 and 14.

Assistant District Election Officer, RB Dubey informed that most of the Government departments of the town have submitted their list of officials to be deployed at polling booths during the election. He further added that election department had received a list of around 10,600 staff including 8,100 male and 2,500 female from various Government departments of the State capital till date.

He also mentioned that list of officials from many Government departments are still coming. It is pertinent to be mention that earlier officials of the district administration had claimed that the department is running shortage of around 1,000-1,500 official, who would be required for serving duty at the electoral booths. Earlier the required number of staff for the Panchayat poll was estimated to be around 8,000. But now, after receiving almost the final list of the officials of the staff shortage problem may not exist anymore and election would hopefully be conducted in a peaceful manner.

Now the officials do not have to serve in double shift, he added. Officials informed that vehicles arrangement for the Panchayat poll has also been done. Total 3,254 vehicles are arranged for the coming Panchayat poll including 1,500 Government vehicles, 600 jeep, 114 max, 310 big buses and 730 small buses. The public transport vehicles were successfully arranged with the support of the officials of the Regional Transport Office (RTO), averred Dubey.

Sources of district administration revealed that special care would be taken while deploying the female staff on the respective booths. Women employees would preferably be deployed in their own blocks. He added that total of 1,306 booths have been marked this year for the Panchayat election. Each booth would consist of five staff including four male and one female staff.

Once the final date of the election is announced a two days training programme would also be conducted by the education officer and similar level officer to educate the staff about the necessary measures to be adopted during the election time. They would also be guided about the way of conducting the election, about the right usage of Electronic Voting Machine (EVM) and related information necessary from the election point of view.

Officials mentioned that still there is some confusion regarding the final election date. Hopefully, it would be finalized in a scheduled meeting to be held between the officials of the election commission, district administration and Government on Feb 13.
