Discrimination against transgenders illegal

PNS

It is illegal to discriminate against transgender persons. In an official release on Saturday, the State administration informed that like other citizens, transgender persons also have the rights to a life with dignity and personal liberty under article 21 of the Indian Constitution.

Discrimination against transgender persons in the spheres of education, employment and health services is prohibited. It is a crime to prevent the transgenders from using public facilities, mentally or physically exploiting them and socially stigmatising them. Under the law, any Government or private institution cannot discriminate against transgenders in matters related to employment. Further, transgender children cannot be separated from their guardians or family, the official release stressed.
