The Uttarakhand Disaster Management and Review Committee chairman Prayag Datt Bhatt said that he would tour the disaster affected areas of the State and work towards facilitating of the required reconstruction and rehabilitation work. He said this at a function organised by the district Congress Sewa Dal to felicitate him on being made the committee chairman here on Friday.

Talking to the media persons at the programme, Bhatt said that Harish Rawat had been made the Chief Minister of Uttarakhand specially to speed up the relief and rehabilitation works after the June 2013 disaster. “Though much work was done following the disaster, parliamentary and other elections among other factors prevented effective monitoring of the works even though meetings were held regularly. Now the disaster management and review committee has been formed by the CM in order to ensure that the works being undertaken in disaster affected areas are executed properly. I have already held a meeting with officials concerned and told them clearly that the committee will be keeping an eye on the spending of funds allocated for rehabilitation and reconstruction works in the affected areas. We will now tour the disaster affected districts to check the execution of funded works undertaken there. The committee will try its best to submit its report to the State Government within six months,” he added.

Addressing party workers, Bhatt thanked the CM and Uttarakhand Pradesh Congress Committee president Kishore Upadhyaya for appointing him the head of the disaster management and review committee. Responding to a request by former party city chief lal Chand Sharma, Bhatt said that he would always remain accessible for party workers. The PCC chief coordinator Jot Singh Bisht also addressed the gathering on the occasion. Uttarakhand women’s Congress chairperson Sarojini Kaintura and other party

leaders also expressed their views on the occasion.
