DIS Riverside students become cleanup ambassadors

PNS

The birthday of India's first Prime Minister Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, also celebrated as Children's Day, could hardly be celebrated in a  better way than the students of DIS Riverside Campus presenting themselves as the cleanup ambassadors in the areas  near  their school to mark the day.

As an extension to the Swachata Abhiyan started by PM Narendre Modi in 2014, a number of activities were organised on the campus. The children actively participated in cleaning of toilets, drains, water tanks, sprinkling of disinfectants in open drains and campus cleaning. The most meaningful activity was visiting the houses of the less privileged people around the school and educating them about the need to keep their environment clean. Students also distributed medicated soaps amongst the people. Chart making and slogan writing competitions were also organised to mark the occasion.

One of the teachers of the school said that the children  being the 'agents of change' and future citizens of the country, it is imperative to inculcate good habits amongst them right from the beginning. "The campaign was focused on bringing about a behavioral change and making the students aware of the importance of cleanliness and hygiene. Through this campaign, the school students will play the role as cleanup ambassadors in the nearby areas and also display an encouraging way for the locals to keep their surroundings clean," the teacher said.
