The patients of the Doon hospital here will soon have the services of an ultra-modern Digital Radiography machine. The Rs1.5-crore machine is capable of producing high resolution digital X rays at a very fast speed.
Incidentally Doon hospital will be the first hospital in the State to have the facility of the Digital radiography machine. The Allengers Company has installed the machine in the radiology department of the hospital and the machine is expected to start functioning soon. Digital radiography is a type of X ray in which digital X-ray sensors are used instead of traditional photographic film. The machine is able to digitally transfer and enhance the image for the benefit of the radiologist. The machine is very fast as it bypasses the chemical processing time of the traditional X rays. The Machine also uses less radiation to produce an image of similar contrast than the conventional method.
The Head of the Radiology department of the Doon Hospital, Dr Yateendra Singh told The Pioneer that the machine is very advanced and its images can be directly viewed on the screen. The machine also has the ability to apply special image processing techniques that enhance overall display of the image. Singh said that more than 300 X rays can be done with the help of machine in a single day. He disclosed that the department would start Bone Marrow Densitometry from probably from next month. This machine checks the calcium levels in bones.
Doon hospital is the largest government hospital in the state with more than 4000 patients visiting the Out Patient Departments of the hospital daily. The radiology department does 125-150 X rays daily at
present.
