PNS

Asking for 20 percent reservation in the vending zones of the Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD) a welfare association of differently abled people met mayor Sunil Uniyal ‘Gama’ on Friday. The head of the association Basant Thapliyal stated that the association has been protesting since the year 2014 in support of the demand for a separate market like especially for the differently abled people to set shops.

Adding in this he said, “We have been regularly protesting for our rights. The state government in the year 2015 announced 20 per cent reservation in the vending zone. However, even after our continuous push nothing was done. We have talked to the mayor Sunil Uniyal ‘Gama’ regarding the issue to which he has assured help. If this reservation is not provided to us soon then a bigger protest will be staged by us.”

Talking to the media persons, the mayor said, “We are very much aware of the issue but a different group came to me with different views regarding this 20 per cent reservation, so a proper checking will be done.  However, connecting the differently abled people with employment is very important. We fully support the differently abled people and initiative will be taken for them. Further, 20 per cent reservation will be given to such vendors in the vending zones we are making in the various parts of the city.”
