PNS

State Tourism Minister Dinesh Dhanai had to face wrath from the disaster victims when he reached Bagi Village, which was struck by cloudburst four days ago, on Tuesday. The people, spending nights in a local school, vented anger over what they alleged double standards being applied with regard to  compensation and demanded they be rehabilitated and provided roof in the same manner the Kedarnath disaster victims were.

They said the cheques of one lakh to each of the victims were not adequate compensation. “We have lost everything-hearth and home,” one of the agitated villagers said.    The Minister said that efforts would be made at the level of administration to get them relief on the lines of the Kedarnath tragedy.

Efforts would be made to provide some help from the CM’s relief fund as well, he added.    Dhanai further said that those who can make arrangements for themselves away from camp would be provided with ration and tents on BPl norms.

He also stressed on building roads, restoring electricity and water supplies. A medical camp would be held at the village, he said. The maximum help would be provided to the victims through social welfare organisations.

The DM Tehri said 18 victims would be provided safe land under the Gram Sabha and helped through Indira Awas and other projects to build houses of their own. He directed Jal Sansthan to restore Chamba Pumping Project.
