District police officers have been directed to take prompt action on the issues related to crimes and law and orders arising out of local politics, the election being left barely a few months away.

State DGP MA Ganapathy reviewed election preparations and law and order situation while presiding over a meeting with Garhwal and Kumaon Range officers and district officers through video conferencing at PHQ on Saturday.

The police officers were directed to follow three points -being predictable to subordinates, sensitive to the public and professional in work.

DGP directed the officers to improve their working patterns so that the police image improves among the people.

He reviewed a -month- long campaign started August 8, 2016 in districts on works on verification of criminals involved in dacoity, loot, burglary, chain snatching, gangster in five years and action on absconders. He expressed disappointment over the police failing to grab the absconders.

The police officers were directed to act on absconders effectively in the next 15 days. Range officers were directed to monitor such works in their respective jurisdictional areas.

DGP reviewed crime cases like burglary, vehicle thefts, chain snatching and others reported from January 1 to August 31, 2016 in Udham Singh Nagar, Haridwar and Dehradun districts. The police officers were directed to draft a work plan to check such crimes and ensure cases are cracked.

DGP applauded works being performed by police personnel of mountainous parts. They had executed their work plan for the redressal of public concerns effectively.

However, he sounded disappointed over the poor performance regarding the same in Dehradun, Haridwar, Udham Singh Nagar and Nainital districts.

DGP said that festivals like Eid, Dussehra, Diwali approaching nearer, the police must be vigilant. Additional police forces would be deployed in  the sensitive areas in terms of communal tension and a meeting should be conducted with members of peace committees, senior citizens and well-known persons in their jurisdictional limits if things so warrant.

He further said that the problems related to medical, pensions and others faced by the policemen would be redressed promtly.
