With  reports of the school students indulging in underage riding, defying the rules, pouring in the police headquarters daily,   the   State Director General of police Anil K Raturi  met the officers from the administration and police on Thursday and discussed at length the measures which should be taken to stop the students from flouting the rules.  Among those present at the meeting were Dehradun DM SA Murugesan, Dehradun regional transport officer Sudhanshu Garg, State ADGP (law and order) Ashok Kumar, traffic headquarters director DIG Kewal Khurana and  Dehradun SSP Nivedita Kukreti.

Raturi said, post- meeting that minor students studying in class VIII and Class XII are  taking out two-wheelers to reach  schools and vice versa, violating traffic rules. Such things happen due to inadequate transportation facility around the school areas in the state capital, he said. He sasid that if adequate transportation facility is available, then these students will not break rules.

He further said that to resolve the issue, the State Government has decided to arrange adequate transport facilities for picking and dropping students from the schools.

ADGP Ashok Kumar said that DM and SSP would convene a meeting with the school authorities in the state capital soon and the number of  the students interested in the transport service would be collected. Transport officers have been directed to draft routes for buses as well as the number of buses needed for the special transport arrangement for the school students,  he added.
