PNS

Taking cognisance of the increasing incidents of chain-snatching and daylight robberies, Director General (Law and Order) Ashok Kumar gave ultimatum to the Dehradun police to solve these cases within seven days. He further directed Garhwal Inspector General (IG) Ajay Rautela to transfer the Station Officers (SO) of those police stations who fail to solve these cases.

Kumar said, “They have been directed to take preventive measures against such cases, in the form of picketing, vehicle checking and patrolling.” Following the directions, the district police on Monday was seen checking suspicious vehicles, two wheelers without number plate and two-wheelers resembling those of chain-snatchers. It is pertinent to mention here that alone on Sunday there were three attempts of chain snatching, out of which two were successful, while in one attempt the snatchers ended up stealing the mobile phone of the victim. In the last five days there have been six cases of chain snatching.

According to sources the snatchers in at least three of the cases are same, as the eye witnesses have give similar description of their appearance and their modus operandi is also same. Two of the chain snatching incidents were carried out on motorbike while the three attempts on Sunday were carried out on Scooty. Senior district officers on Monday maintained that they have important leads on the case and the perpetrators.
