Dept denies death by DPT vaccination

PNS

The medical, health and family welfare department has denied that the death of a child in Kithcha area of Udham Singh Nagar district occurred by adverse reaction of Diphtheria, Pertussis, Tetanus (DPT) vaccination.

On Sunday a five-month-old toddler died in the Shimla Pithor village of Kitchha; her parents and the villagers had alleged that she was given DPT vaccination after which her condition deteriorated. The villagers also alleged that five other children of the village also fell ill after the vaccination. The vaccination camp was organised in the village on November 1.

When contacted, the CMO of Udham Singh Nagar, Dr S K Joshi told The Pioneer that the death of child had nothing to do with the vaccination. He said that the pediatrician and the private hospital doctors who examined the child had diagnosed that the child was suffering from the hemophilia (bleeder’s disease).
